Meet the overseer: a second pair of eyes on every article

Every article is now checked for notes that were never meant to be published, like a missing figure or a reminder to confirm something. Evergreen fixes what it can from sources it verifies, and holds anything it cannot until you have had a look.

Writers leave themselves notes: a figure to look up, a detail to confirm, a reminder to add a source. In a draft that is fine. On a published page it is not, and an article that goes out with "[confirm the price]" in the middle of a sentence costs you the reader's trust.

The overseer is the first version of a reviewer that reads everything Evergreen writes before it reaches your site. Today it does one job well: it makes sure no article publishes with notes that were meant for an editor.

What it does

  • Checks every article. New articles, AI revisions and your own edits are all checked the moment they are saved.
  • Fixes what it can. When an article needs a missing figure, Evergreen looks for it in the article's research and on the web. A figure is only added when the page it came from says exactly that, with the same number and units, and for a dated article like "Rates in October", from that month. Otherwise the sentence is rewritten so it no longer depends on the missing detail.
  • Holds what it cannot. If a note is still there, the article is held and will not publish on its date. When Evergreen wrote it, you also get an email and a note in your activity feed saying what needs a look.
  • Shows its sources. Every figure the overseer adds is listed on the article page with a link to where it came from.

Instructions for readers are fine

Not every bracket is a problem. Email templates with "[First name]", checklists and fill-in-the-blank examples are written for your readers, so the overseer only flags them as worth a look and never holds them.

How to use it

There is nothing to switch on. When an article is held:

  1. Open the article. The review panel above the title shows the text to look for.
  2. Edit those spots and save. The article is checked again straight away, and the hold lifts once the notes are gone.
  3. If a flagged line is meant for your readers, press Publish anyway. That approves this exact version, and any later edit is checked again.

Good to know

  • Your own edits are never rewritten. The overseer only fixes text that Evergreen wrote.
  • Figures are only ever added from a page the overseer has read and checked. Anything it cannot confirm is left out, never guessed.
  • This is the start. The overseer will take on more checks over time, all using the same review panel.
